Thank you, Rev. OH. You are indeed a truth teller.
I joined Trinity UCC 1998 by recommendation of the late Rev. Odinga Maddox, pastor of Mt. Hope AMEZ, White Plains, NY. What a blessed recommendation!
There is so much I could say about Rev. Wright! But it would be unfair to take the space necessary to do so. My family and I have tried to shower him with our love and gratitude over the years. He supported my husband and I as Chair of the Married Couples’ Ministry. and Trinity’s 1st Married Couple’s Conference in 2001, during my husband’s illness and superbly eulogized a man he only
knew 4 years. He and his family continued to faithfully support our family. ( our son Terence is an Omega today because of Rev. Wright’s leadership).
I cannot end without mentioning his support and encouraging our congregation to support various Union organizing campaigns such as Walmart, Advocate Hospital and others because of his strong convictions that workers should receive fair wages, hours, benefits and justice the job.
I listened to former President Obama’s remarks during Rev. Jackson’s funeral. Like so many
others I was appalled when, while Rev. Wright sitting in his wheelchair
no more than 20 ft away, was completely ignored as Obama recognized other notable pastors in the audience. My heart hurt, more than I can describe! I had observed Obama at church service. I had
heard the stories from Trinity members, of Obama many visits on weekdays to Rev. Wright’s office leading up to his run for U.S. Senate-IL. and Obama announcement to run for President.
Finally, the Obama Center opens on June 19th. I live 10 blocks from the center. I will treat those 10 blocks like former President Obama treated the 20ft between he and Rev. Wright. Because I have four granddaughters living in Chicago I am not saying I will never go, for the sake of history. But first there must be a discussion on Rev. Moss, III this past Sunday titled: “The Contradiction of Character Building”.
Thank you Dr. Hendricks. As a former member of Trinity United Church of Christ Chicago for more than 30 years, I am excited to know that there are even more wonderful things to know and learn about Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright! His public & personal ministerial guidance to me and my children SAMORY Amilcar & Patience Nzingha have been invaluable to us. I look forward to supporting this SUBSTACK.
Dr Hendricks, thank for sharing this piece on Rev Dr Wright! It’s much appreciated. Rev Wright has had an enormous impact on my life and I can’t thank you enough for this piece.
Thank you for this! He is a giant and possesses uncommon courage. Let us not forget, however, that it was not the far right that went after him politically. It was Hillary Clinton, a United Methodist, who used Rev. Wright during the primaries to try to defeat Obama for the nomination. Republicans also tried to use him, but she did it first, and she should have known better.
Thank you Dr. Hendricks. I am humbled by your kindness.
I love you Pastor wright! Blessings to your entire family! 🌹❤️🌹❤️🙏🏽
Dr. Hendricks, thank you ever so much for honoring this giant of the faith, of the religion of Jesus.
